I have a few thoughts, comments and questions. I think there is a way this idea works well and a way it could cause problem.

What level would be considered higher level?

Do you propose on allowing starter higher level characters to interact with the current CORE characters that have started at first level? I think that would be very unfair to the first level starter characters who maybe played for three years to get to fourth level and now are over matched by a high level character that is one month old. I would support the concept if the higher level characters don't interact directly with the first level starting characters.

I also dont think higher level starter characters will or can effect the problem with slow xp awards. As I mentioned in the concurrent discussion, at least for me it is not about playing a higher level character but about gaining advancement, progress, reward and earning levels for my playing effort. For me starting at a higher level is meaningless and will not effect the problem with slow advancement. The only think that will effect that problem is if moderators award more xp and treasure in a timely fashion.

If only a few players get to play high level characters (possibly due to limited availability) and they get to interact with the current first level starting characters there is the possible bully factor, plus the possible feeling of unfairness or cliches or elistist group, etc. I think this is solved by keeping them separate.

Lastly, we have over 400 active characters that started at first level. I like it that CORE starts everyone at first level and with the same money and ability points. It promotes fairness and a level playing field. I am concerned the idea of some players getting to start at higher levels, with magic items and gear, it could raise issues of fairness and balance.

Having raised my doubts, I should also raise my pros, I think higher level campaigning is certainly something that many players enjoy and this will give yet one more good outlet and forum for playing D&D. I think any moderator that has a passion for an idea should be allowed to create and pursue as long as it doesn't seriously impair the total gaming experience at CORE. I think high level campaigns could work out if the higher level campaign/s were separate from the current Greyhawk threads and did not interact with first level starting characters. Maybe they could have their own Forum on the Greyhawk Board called High Level Campaigns. Then we can see over time how many players and characters and moderators use the forum. If it becomes too popular for one forum it could expand, in the case of overwhelming popularity it could even get its own board.

Just my thoughts.
