Caellen looks towards the dark mouths of the cave entrances while he listens to the warnings the wizard Glennfar gives to the group and pictures the dark creature waiting in ambush. He moves his eyes from the first entrance to the second and then to the third, and he continues to circulate the choices in his head. The Pelorian recalls his youthhood in the peaceful lands of Keoland and recalls a carnival vendor who made his living making gemstones appear and reappear. The clever man earned his coin fooling those who wagered against him and followed the trickster's nimble hands when he always used a sleight to dupe even the most confident bettors.

During their break, Caellen moves towards Kerravin and says to him, "Lemme me looks at that ear fungus you complained about. We need your ears sharp in these dark caves even if your eyes aren't." The priest roughly pinches the man's earlobe and leans very close and whispers to him, " Watch Xenophon". The priest stands and straightens himself with a concerned look and taps his dagger, "When we have more time, I shall do a bleeding to cure ye of your problem."

The priest then moves to the warrior Xenophon and says to him, "Good man, you have seen something of this foul place. Do you think we will be safe taking this secret passage Glennfar speaks of? Or do you think we will be safer and catch these monsters off guard entering another way?" The priest carefully watches the man's reactions.
