As Tanner feels the magic of his song spread throughout the party, he raises his crossbow in the hopes of bringing down one of these dog-creatures and redeem himself for his earlier lapse of courage. However, no sooner does he begin to sing then the remaining Gnolls are struck down almost in unison by the mighty arms of his companions. Lowering his weapon, but still singing, he begins to move through the bodies to give help where he can.

Once he is sure that none of the wounded have been left unattended, Tanner will turn his attention to the Gnolls. He'll check their persons for signs or symbols that would give Tanner some clue as to how or why they had teamed up with that Black Dragon. He'll also ask the others who were on watch when the dragon appeared where it came from or how it came to attack them. Hopefully, Tanner will be able to piece some of this information together to figure out what just happened (Bardic Knowledge). And if any of the Gnolls are still alive and able to be questioned, Tanner will help as best he can (not knowing Gnoll himself, unfortunately). Although remembering the hobgoblin he once befriended, this time he will avoid being too nice to any of them.

Once again, Tanner realizes that an entire battle passed without him drawing weapon or striking an enemy. On the bright side, however, he appears to be unscathed. Smiling, he resigns himself the fact that he will probably never be a great warrior, and will always have to earn his pay in other ways. And with that, he heads over to the Gnolls in the hopes of getting some information from them.

And if there are any items that might be magical, Tanner will happily cast Detect Magic to see if they are enchanted, and even Identify if necessary.
