Tanner will continue to move towards the next rise with the stealthy group, keeping an eye on the battle beginning below. If the gnolls start swarming towards the other half of the party, Tanner will stop and try and flank as many of the attackers as possible. But if it looks like Tyro and the others can hold there own, then Tanner and the others will likely be able to do more damage if they're able to make it all the way up the rise and attack the camp itself. Unless, of course, once they top the rise they find that there are hundreds of gnolls and dragons and other nasty things, in which case Tanner will slip away as quietly as he came....
