Tanner's heart drops as he hears the gnoll's horn sound into the night. Did he wait a second too long before acting? Did he give them enough time to warn the others of their coming? Although Tanner notices the horn-blower's surprise at the arrow that skipped by him. Perhaps the horn was a signal of the gnoll party returning? Or of the victory that Tanner made up? Hoping that they'll be able to capture this gnoll alive and question him, Tanner speaks to him in gnoll as he raises his crossbow to fire.

"Surrender or die, gnoll," Tanner says just loud enough for the gnoll to hear, but hopefully not so loud as to let the others further up the hill hear him.

A tall, gangly human youth looks at you, his questioning green eyes filled with the energy and enthusiasm of youth. Clad in a fine chain shirt with a buckler emblazoned with crossed lute and sword, he wears an Elven rapier at his side and a rustic lute over his shoulder.
