You all gather together and
congregate around the side of the ship next to the coil of rope and finally get
a good look at the woman that called you over. Crowned with a mane of fiery red
locks, she looks like someone not to be crossed. Yet the smile lines at the
corners of her eyes and the easy way she holds herself hint at a lighter side.
She dresses to accentuate her figure, and her whole appearance speaks of the
sea, from the seagull feather in her tricorne hat to the sailor tattoos on her
arms and the clay pipe thrust into the corner of her mouth.
"You must be the fresh
meat. Well met, and if no one has said it, welcome to the Bloody Mary."
She nods to each of you, making eye contact with all. "My name is Sandara
Quinn. I've been on board for about two weeks now, press ganged as well. Are
any of you injured?" Sandara smiles as she looks everyone over for wounds.
It is then you notice a symbol on a chain around her neck, a three pronged
spear bisecting a wave of sea water.

Introductions are quietly
made and Talon asks if Mr Scourge also press ganged Sandara as well. She
responds with, "Aye it was he that got the
better of me." A quick look of anger passes quickly across her
face. Talon (Bardic knowledge natural 20)
immediately recognizes her holy symbol as representing Procan, the Deity of
ocean storms, winds, and waves as well as of sea life. Talon has heard that His
clerics make holy water from brine and often travel aboard ships to placate the
gods wild moods.
Sanara Quinn then shakes off her mood and smiles at
you all. "For the past two weeks I've been
exploring the ship, and have found where they keep our things."
With a mischievous grin she continues, "I was
able to convince the quartermaster to return my personal equipment,
claiming the items were righteous artifacts blessed by Procan, and would bring
a terrible curse on those who wrongfully held them."
Then she reaches into the coil of rope underneath her
bottom and withdraws some of your own gear! "I
was also able to grab a hold of these last night." Haracha can instantly
identify his own
punching dagger and sap, and Talon can see his spell component pouch and small
dagger. Akordia's spell component pouch and one scroll are waiting for her.
Mila sees her only crafted weapon, her dagger.
Sandara then explains
"Listen, on a pirate ship, it’s not what you know but who you know that
helps you get by. Friends help each other out, enemies cause trouble—on a
crowded pirate ship, this fact is very important." After handing
over your ear, she takes her seat and relaxes. "Settle
down, it's Bloody Hour."
The crew gathers on deck at
dusk as Mr. Plugg and Master Scourge emerge onto the deck from the bilge area.
They are half dragging and half carrying a scrawny, shrunken man of
indeterminate age that Sandara whispers is named Jakes Magpie. She then tells
you he was a pirate caught stealing from the quartermaster’s tore the night
before. After a brief interrogation by Mr. Plugg and Master Scourge, Jakes
admitted his crime.
As you watch, the First Mate
and Master at arms be slowly keelhaul Jakes Magpie. It is also plain to see the
eagerness with which Mr. Plugg, in particular, tugs at the rope as the
unfortunate Magpie is dragged under the ship. What appears on the other side of
the ship has been cut to shreds and is soon thrown overboard to feed the
Some swabs soon appear and
begin handing out tin plates, dinner rations consisting of a sloppy stew of
what smells like fish, and a heel of crusty bread.
